About FDSL (English Version)

Fundasaun Desenvolvimento Software Livre (FDSL), formerly known as the Timor-Leste Open Source Community (TOSC), is an organization based in Timor-Leste that involves university students, secondary school students, and community members who are actively engaged in the use of Open Source Software (OSS). Before becoming a foundation, TOSC had already been actively organizing various events since its establishment on Saturday, 17 December 2011.

TOSC was founded by a community of Linux enthusiasts, members of the ICT NGO Forum (FONGTIL), and with the support and guidance of teams from BlankOn Linux and Yayasan Air Putih from Indonesia. Its main objective is to implement and develop the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), particularly in the area of Open Source Software (OSS) in Timor-Leste.

As a non-profit organization focused on Information and Communication Technology, TOSC has continuously shared knowledge and experience through seminars, training sessions, and discussions for the general public, especially youth.

With a strong commitment to promoting Open Source Software (OSS) in Timor-Leste, TOSC was eventually transformed into the Fundasaun Desenvolvimento Software Livre (FDSL), with the following vision and mission:

To become a center for research and development of Free and Open Source Software in Timor-Leste.

Mission

To conduct research in the field of Free and Open Source Software and implement research outcomes within the community.
To develop Free and Open Source Software based on the needs of the community.
To organize training in Information Technology based on Free and Open Source Software for the public.
To collaborate with the Government, civil society, relevant organizations, and stakeholders with a strong interest in Free and Open Source Software.
To promote awareness and encourage the adoption of Free and Open Source Software among the population and communities.
